Daphne Geismar

Process

At the start of a project, I read the manuscript, look at images,
do research and listen so that I understand the content. I then
work to realize a solution that presents complex information in an
ordered and beautiful way. I discuss concepts and show designs
and then refine, based on the response and an exchange of ideas.
At the same time, I manage a myriad of details. Good design –
and a successful project – are dependent on effective production.
I establish and uphold a detailed schedule; calculate page count
and allocation; keep account of the budget; recommend and direct
photographers, illustrators, typesetters and printers; define
printing specifications; obtain printing estimates; and supervise
the pre-press and printing processes – as needed.
