Art was extremely influential during China’s Cultural Revolution. This book includes paintings, drawings, sketchbooks and posters created from the 1950s through the 1970s, including many godlike images of Mao. Essays, interviews, historical documents and a chronology of historical and art-related events explore the violent class struggle, the persecutions and restrictions on artists, and the impact the Revolution has on present-day China. The design, using FF Oxide display font, is evocative of Chinese posters from the time.
